Writing Greeting cards
Blogging
Writing Articles

Writing a book can take a long time so if you are looking for a way of earning some money from writing whilst you are finishing your book then this blog will be great for you.

How to Write a Good Book

Today i yet again put pen to paper in an attempt to progress in my latest project. I posted the other day about the importance of writing often which i wholeheartedly advise so as not to lose sight of your main goal which is to write a good book.

Today i write with the thought in mind of your overall layout of your book. If you cannot write good then you should not even be at this stage, practice makes perfect and a good deal of talent is required when writing a book. So i am not writing today about your writing skills and your creativity but more about your overall structure of your book. My downfall is that i don't read books as much as i should do, so today i decided to read a book that shares a similar niche to my books subject. Every writer has their own way of writing and putting their words into a lovely way that your reader finds enjoyable but what we often struggle to do is to plan. Reading helps you to plan. How?

By reading what others have written before you will help you get an idea of how you want your book to flow, chapter layout and such like. So my advice today would be to read more to get your mind flowing with ideas on the structure of your own book!.

Write Often an Important Factor when Writing a Book

It has been many days since i first put pen to paper with my new book, and as promised i would post to this blog every time i work on my book. One thing have noticed is that i have become distracted and i have struggled today to get back into the flow of writing. I think it was a big mistake to have a few days gap of not writing. The fact is i never stop thinking or planning my book but with other distractions it is surprising how such valuable thoughts and plans can get forgotten. I have decided from now on that no matter where i am or what i am doing that i will always carry a small note pad. It is important to jot down anything and everything so that when we do get time to put pen to paper we have the note pad to familiarize ourselves with all the previous days thoughts and plans for the book. How to Start Writing a Book

I woke up today with motivation to start writing my new book. I am 2 hrs into my day and i thought why not post here what progress i make whilst writing my book, after all this is a blog about writing a book and there maybe some beginners out there who want real journals of book writing, warts and all.

So here i am, i am not a professional writer, i would consider a professional writer to be a writer whom has gained lots of experience. We can all be anything we want including a writer however to be professional at what we do in my opinion comes after much experience, i have little experience so i don't consider myself a professional writer.

I would imagine those of you wanting to start writing a book want to do it for many reasons, maybe you like writing and want to make money from something you enjoy, maybe you want to help people by letting other hear what you have to say. My reason would most probably be if i am honest a mixture of the two. I don't have high expectations of making a great deal of money from writing this book so i would go down the path of saying it would be for self satisfaction, to achieve something i wanted to do.

So to get started i must research my chosen topic, and that is what i am doing today, research research and more research. I wont tell you what i am writing about i will leave you guessing as i want you to see that to write about anything whether it be fiction or non fiction, all the same principles generally apply.

Why am i researching? Well you can never know enough and to write a whole book about a certain topic or plot needs you to get your head completely round it, to reseacrh it from all angels and possibilities. It is only when you are armed with all the tools that your writing can flow fluently! So i will end this post and go back to my research you can make sure you don't miss one of my posts by subscribing free, i don't send spam or unwanted emails, just my posts.

Readers of fiction want to find the writer's work to be believable. It is the job of the writer to write a story convinces, that it is not just the writer talking. Builders!

I remember when i worked away from home full time, i day dreamed of being able to work from home and put more time into writing, i finaly get to do this and i am having to listen to builders for eighteen months banging away right at the back of my house. I often read about writers whom get writers block or get weighed down with distraction and i often wondered what do they mean? Are they lost in their own thoughts unable to put pen to paper. I now realise just how hard it is to write, you build a routine when the kids are at school and you know the house is all calm only to be faced with another distraction. If anyone knows where i can get those headphones from that block out all noise please let me know!
I wonder how people turn this arround, i mean they must surely, life is hectic and i doubt many people get peace and quiete. I suppose its enthusiasm, if you have the drive to write then you will, how does one become less distracted i wonder?

Keeping Focused

Keeping focused is something i struggle with. I often wonder what makes me get side tracked from writing and more often than not it's hectic daily life. The thing about writing is that unless you work for someone or are serious freelancer then money will come much later, when you have written, published and promoted and so to keep this goal insight is usualy a hard one. We all dream of having the money to support ourselves whilst we put everything into writing our book but the truth is we are not all that lucky. This life is very time consuming aswell as expensive and so it is important we make time to write if we are ever going to suceed. We can get so cught up in living that we forget how to live and fulfil our own personal goals. We must keep our dream of getting our books finished and published insight.

Poetry a Craft or Gift?

Poetry is it a craft or gift? I have been wondering this for some time now. I am more inclined to say it is a craft as i am a believer that we can all do anything and to say poetry were a gift would mean only those with the gift can write poetry so i am going with the fact that it is a craft that anyone can master if they try hard enough.

How to write a book Tip 8

8. Don't have too many characters
Don't overload your reader with characters and their names, too many names will confuse them, decide early on how many main character you are going to have, five would be adequate enough. Take time to let your readers get to know the characters personally, describe them the best you can.

How to write a book Tip 7

7. Getting started
Don't go any further until you have a huge pack of Note cards and a pen.... why? your going to make notes and lots of them. Make notes of the main events your going to write, have a set of cards for each character and write their features, good points, bad points.... make notes on anything and everything. Place them around where you are going to write so you can glance at them often when your writing, use them as Que cards to jog your mind.

How to write a book Tip 6

6. Research
If your writing about how to grow tomatoes make sure you have looked up every method, tested the methods and equipped yourself with all the know how. If you are writing a novel about a nurse then talk to some nurses, sit outside the hospital and watch as they come out for breaks, observe their tired faces as they grab a five minute Rather from their hectic job, sit in your car and jot down the expressions and he emotions you see on their faces....be careful not to appear to be a stalker though lol.

How to write a book Tip 5

5.Environment
Always write in a room or place that will inspire you. A comfy quiet room, a beach even under a tree in an open meadow. It can be anywhere you feel at ease. But there is nothing worse than being midway through a fruitful chapter only to have the kids burst in asking "whats for dinner" If you are writing a novel that requires you to 'get into character' write in a place that allows you to get into character more easily.

How to write a book Tip 4

4. Planing your time
Decide how long to give yourself to write your book, even if you don't have publisher deadlines to have no deadlines is not always good. You need enthusiasm and goals. If you say "you have all the time in the world" then it will take you all the time in the world to write, you may even lose interest or go so far off the subject that the book is unreadable. You need to stay focused, life is full of surprises and you never know what's around the corner to throw you off course. With your book you will character build or research subjects that are fresh in your head, you need to stay within the story or subject, if you leave big gaps between the periods you write then you may lose the subject or characters altogether. Set yourself targets..... for example 2hrs a day and 8 hrs at the weekend. Pick times the house is quiet or times when your less likely to be disturbed.

How to write a book Tip 3

3 Don't dismiss ideas
So your story doesn't have a big dramatic storyline......and?. The point of writing is to grab the readers attention and what better way to get them truly into the book than to write about something they can relate to. You will be surprised at what high percentage of readers look for books that they can relate to, characters they aspire to and story lines they have experienced. They find great enthusiasm and eagerness to see how the character deals with their dilemma's the emotions they go through, you want the reader to feel they are part of the story.

How to write a book Tip 2

2. Write about something that interests you
It does not matter what you write. whether it is poetry, how to grow tomatoes or a fantasy novel about dragons the point to remember is if you don't know what your writing how on earth are you going to convince the reader that its worth reading. You must either research your subject or write from the heart. If you enjoy the subject then you will write better content.

How to write a book Tip 1

1. Confidence in yourself
The first thing you need to help you get started is confidence. Believe in yourself. We are each individuals who all have different opinions and ways of doing things, don't always think others are better than you......they just do things differently. Just because someone is not on your wavelength doesn't mean they are not part of the tide ! Wouldn't this world be a boring place if we all thought and acted the same way. Tell yourself that what you think and say is really interesting and useful to someone, in fact most of us don't realise that what we say and do often has big impact on others.
