Poetry is it a craft or gift? I have been wondering this for some time now. I am more inclined to say it is a craft as i am a believer that we can all do anything and to say poetry were a gift would mean only those with the gift can write poetry so i am going with the fact that it is a craft that anyone can master if they try hard enough.

Poetry is an art.

No matter how hard I try to paint a picture or sketch a drawing, they will still look like the page was attacked by an enraged third grader.
Yes, it is a craft but, if you don't have the gift of poetic eye well, you'll just be writing lines in vane.
Not only that, I believe most people still haven't a clue HOW to read poetry let alone write it.
If a casual poetry reader comes across a free verse poem packed with deep metaphors and the reader doesn't understand them, the first thing they want to howl is "this poem sucks" when in reality it's the reader who's poetically undereducated.
Most people still want to write abab rhymes and call it poetry. Not so.
Read poetry, write poetry, read poetry even more and study it.
Ok, I'll shut up now.
